March 20, 2015 Azzano Decimo – Warm-up show – WEEKEND Live

Translation by Davide Andreis

9 AM  Off we go! Our trip to Friuli is long but we’re confident that a wonderful day is ahead of us… We listen to Weekend in the car and speculate about the playlist. We’re happy… Very happy!

4:59 PM  Pravisdomini. Here starts the first adventurous adventure of the Weekend tour. We are in front of a Hotel (3 stars) but nobody answers from the reception 😦
We called the owner on his cell phone and he said he would arrive in 7-8 minutes.
We’re standing still, waiting out here…

Well, eventually someone comes along…. A lady who speaks very little Italian and understands it even less… she escorts us to the room; we try to explain to her that we’ll be late tonight and therefore need the front door key. It seems that there is no way to get it…. Maybe we should call them again later tonight when we get back… Hell, we read a good review of this hotel on Tripadvisor!  I can’t take it, no I really can’t!😭😭😭😭😭😭

5:14 PM. Finally we managed to get the key. We won’t have to play beggars tonight, and that’s something!

In front of the theater, behind a closed door…. That’s the magical moment when, from afar, we hear the notes of the rehersals… Pure emotion… Carla is rehersing Aspettando Mezzanotte and her high notes hit us straight in the soul…
While listening to the rehersals, the evening came: the air is a bit cooler and darkness wraps the theater around. At about 7 pm Carla leaves to rest before the concert. Meanwhile we get our tickets, Let’s take a break with our friends, who have just arrived.

9:15 PM  The musicians and Carla arrive on stage.
Emotions echo inside us in this latest concert of this Artist we’ve always loved, who over times continues to give us unique moments. Well, one might say unique moments, but, because of a strange alchemy, they magically keep happening, unexpectedly…
Songs for 90 minutes, chosen from Weekend and Samsara, plus revisited song from her repetoire.

On stage with her:
Osvaldo Di Dio: guitars, keyboards, voice
Floriano Bocchino: keyboards / piano, voice
Antonello D’Urso: guitars, bass, live electronics, voice.

10 febbraio 2013 – Nel sole… in viaggio verso Livorno

JANUARY 24: “IN THE STREETS LOST IN HISTORY THE WIND CHANGES”… NOTTE A ROMA

Translation by Davide Andreis

This morning, like every morning, I start my small C1’s engine to come to work… to Rome, a few steps from Parco della Musica.
It won’t be a day like any other. No, today I’ll leave my workplace in search for, almost always in vain, making sense of a few hours that remain until the moment I close my eyes to sleep.
Today I expect friends, Music, I expect my one and only true staple… My rustproof Sense, the Guide of over 30 years of my existence…
Yeah… Rome… how can I forget that March 5, 1983? My first Carla’s concert. I was a little girl or something more and the concert was a birthday gift. At the Teatro Olimpico, tickets bought from touts at a stratospheric price. For a long time it’s been the most beautiful day of my life… There were others, “best days of my life” then, and not a single one where somehow Carla, her Music, her presence, were not in it.

7:39 PM
It took me an hour to arrive, though I’ve been here many times; today I couldn’t even find the parking entrance…
I have lots of flash tied to this place. I remember, many years ago, a Sakamoto’s concert. I was with my boyfriend of that period… Before the concert we had a drink. He took a juice and after a while he told me: “For all my life, you must remind me not to drink fruit juice, because it makes me sick.”
And I replied, glowing with joy: “Then it means that we’ll be together for life.” He didn’t answer. I was very much in love. He wasn’t. During the concert I fell asleep.

I also remember a beautiful concert by Patti Smith, amazing!

The last memory that crosses my mind while I’m here waiting for the concert dates back to the day when I came here to buy the tickets for tonight. What a joy! I felt all the happiness of something beautiful that would begin soon: the Samsara tour, in fact. About that afternoon I remember the surreal atmosphere, the sound of a violin and an immense, irrepressible and childish joy…
Carla was there years ago, when I cried because of the man who didn’t answer. And she was there as well, with the joy I felt tightening the Samsara tour tickets in my hands. These are the thoughts that cross my mind when, after taking an elevator in the Auditorium, I find myself, as if by magic, in front of the Sala Sinopoli, and I step in for a moment, to attend the rehersals, with the indifference of those who should patrol to keep “intruders” away. Being transparent is painful, but sometimes it comes in handy!

The concert tonight is overwhelming. A series of cathartic, timeless emotions. Technically perfect, but at the same time full of passion, energy, blood.
It’s a continuous ovation for Carla. The audience is all with her, and often stands up to acclaim her.
After a few timeless songs, it’s a never-ending applause and gratitude: so is after “Nomadi”, “Prosepttiva Nevski”, “Il Sole nella Pioggia”, but even after the songs of the beautiful Samsara, above all “Un mondo a parte”. It’s a total exchange, the warmth permeates the Sala Sinopoli and the enthusiasm, barely restrained during the execution of the magnificent songs, explodes every time in an endless thunderous applause. Carla is happy. We are too, completely ecstatic.
The always superlative version of “Nomadi” of this tour, moves us to tears in the guitar round.
Wonderful musicians. There is room for all emotions: the entrance into the Dream with the opening of “Tempo Senza Tempo”, the gentle rocking in the sublime with “Morire d’Amore”, the ecstatic admiration for the perfection of the songs like “Prospettiva Nevski”, “Come il Mare”, “Sui Giardini del Mondo”, the poetic sweetness of “Autunno Gi‡” and “Un Mondo a Parte”, the warm emotion with “Nomadi” and “Il Contatto”, the catharsis with “Il Vento Caldo dell’Estate” and, finally, the pure fun with “Per Elisa” and “Messaggio”… and we’re all under the stage with and for her…

You are great, Carla! See you in Pescara…

JANUARY 22: FROM VERONA TO GENOA: THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

Translation by Davide Andreis

12.30 PM

Travelling again, destination: Genoa. The small C1 is now full! 3 people (Flavio, Gianpaolo and I) plus a load of luggage. We are on A26 (NT: highway 26) and the navigator insists on having us driving on A7. Chiara, don’t insist, that highway sucks, give us a minimum of decision making, come on!

2:00 PM
In Genoa we find an ideal temperature. It’s a beautiful sunny day and we decide to spend it at the Aquarium. Marina joins us and we spend the whole afternoon with dolphins, seals and beautiful fish of all kinds. I bought a pair of earrings shaped as two dolphins… hoping they bring good luck…

7.06 PM
We’re inside the theater. Very nice… intimate and cozy, with plenty of space to sit and drink. This atmosphere is so relaxing before the concert. For once, we don’t wait outside in the cold. And to think that, outside, tonight there is an acceptable temperature…

9:03 PM
At the end, we decide to sleep here in Genoa. The very idea of driving 500 km after the concert upsets us… So, in contravention of our strict rules, we have dinner before the concert and after it… immediately to bed!
Big credits to the the chestnut tiramisu cake of the restaurant… Something sublime!!!

Now we are waiting for these red curtains to open up…

The theater is almost full… it’s nice to be here… again…
Carla gives us another Dream, and the audience warmly welcomes her. I must say that we are a bit exhausted tonight. Fatigue is heavy and we can’t address our voices to her, the way we’d like to. But the heart… that one, yes… and we left ours on the magnificent “Nomadi” guitar. An absolutely beautiful and unmissable version, sang by Carla in Verona and here again tonight… thrilling…
On leaving the theater, a melancholic weariness… Intense emotions tangle, physical exhaustion and a slight, very personal sadness… Because not always one can live well the end of something, it depends on the mood, on what came before and what comes after… Is it these concerts are a light in a moment of great uncertainty… or is it simply that it’s time to go to bed, as in just over three hours we must leave and start clocking up 500 km and then back to work…
We leave Genoa with the certainty, with us since some time, that it’s such a beautiful town, but so chaotic and impossible to drive around… A mind-boggling… Every street and every turn seem tailor-made for you to get lost… Yet that Teatro della Tosse looked so familiar, so intimate… That big hall which housed a children’s playground, a bar, tables and sofas, had the silence of lost opportunities…

See you in Rome, Carla…
